Welcome to The Carter Building! Here you will find a uniquely assembled, eclectic mix of more than 80 people, each committed to the pursuit of creative endeavors and each contributing a passion that fosters and nurtures the overarching Karma of The Carter Building.

We consider ourselves so very fortunate to have such a diverse collection of truly talented and interesting individuals in this cornerstone “Glenwood South” property.  In addition to the many wonderful artists who offer a wide variety of styles and mediums, The Carter Building is blessed to be home to a large number of spirited entrepreneurs. Among our family of tenants you will find published writers, university professors, and photographers with global portfolios.  As you can see, our tenants fully encompass the spectrum of creativity and entrepreneurship.  We are always looking to add new and interesting tenants to our family!

In the colorful course of our 60-year history, The Carter Building has also been home to a number of successful musicians and bands. Some of these tenants rose to national celebrity, including Corrosion of Conformity, which earned multiple Grammy nominations, and Cry of Love.  In fact, portions of the music video “Peace Pipe,” performed by Cry of Love, were actually filmed in The Carter Building. Both bands are available for viewing via YouTube, and The Carter Building was also the location for a number of scenes in the locally produced film “Chesterfield.”

At the heart of our community is a love of the arts shared by me and my wife, Tammie, who has a studio here, and all of our wonderfully unique tenants. In The Carter Building we do not “jury” one’s work nor do we have any underlying requirements.

Our expectations are quite simple: Each person should observe basic rules for personal safety and taking care of the property, and equally important, all our tenants must embrace the understanding that harmony, tolerance and kindness are vital for maintaining a happy and safe place. The Carter Building is home to virtually all types of wonderful people and we insist on tolerance in and on the property at all times. Equality, respect, kindness and honesty are our core values – and we know that great people provide great Karma.

We invite you to visit our unique community anytime and experience for yourself the caring and creative culture.
